Our Troop
Our troop has about 60 members and is very active. Troop 109 enjoys outdoor activities like camping and hiking. We camp approximately one weekend a month and attend summer camp as a troop. The boys learn outdoor skills such as camping, cooking, and orienteering.
Meetings
Our troop meetings are typically held the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month from 7:00pm – 8:30pm at the Prince of Peace Hall on the southwest corner of Pilgrim and Good Hope Roads. Additionally, we have merit badge clinics.
Parent Participation
Troop 109 enjoys a strong parental base. We have many parents who help out in ways ranging from driving our scouts to monthly outings, to serving in a leadership roll within our Troop. Our Troop Committee meets monthly to discuss ongoing troop issues and to ensure the troop’s safety and its success.
Council Activities
We participate in many council events such as Webelos Jamboree, Scouting for Food, and the First Aid Meet.
Leadership
Troop 109 is a boy-run troop. We have an active and strong Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) who relies heavily on his patrol leaders. The Patrol Leader Council (PLC) plans our troop meetings
Fundraising
Troop 109 typically holds two fundraising events per year. Currently we hold a fall wreath sale and a spring candy sale. Scouts selling $600 or more during the wreath sale are exempted from the candy sale. Each scout has a portion of the funds he raises credited to his campership account to help offset the costs of outings or gear. Many of our scouts totally fund their scouting adventures from this fund.
